Has the end of history been signaled by the democratic peace
According to Francis Fukuyama, 1989 marks `the end point of mankind's ideological evolution and the universalisation of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government.'1 Whilst his ideas about the End of History strongly resound the plausible democratic peace thesis, this does not make the liberal democracies of today the `culmination of our ideological evolution.' In Karl Popper's argument against historicism, a strong case in point is presented against Fukuyama's assumption to predict the future of ideological evolution (or lack thereof).
